Manijimup has lovely boutique wineries, some with cellar doors, magnificent forests and beautiful rich countryside. This is a beautiful wine region tucked in Western Australia's Southern corner.
Yet, amidst the beauty of the region there is an element of conflict. The region still only bears an interim registration as a wine region because there is a split between the vignerons, some wishing to have a separate region while others want to go with the Pemberton wine region.
The regions differ in both soils and climate. Manjimup has more sunshine, is warmer, and less humid. Manjimup's soil (marri) is less fertile, having more sand and gravel than Pemberton's karri loam. Despite this fact, Manjimup still produces fine quality wines. The region is becoming more widely recognised.
Awards Grape Varieties - Although Pinot Noir is widely planted, it is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that are beginning to become very well known. Other wines that are produced in this region are:
