The peaceful town of Boyup Brook is situated on the Blackwood River, 269km south east of Perth. Boyup brook owes its name to an Aboriginal word meaning 'place of big stones' or 'place of big smoke' given to Boyup Pool, a few km away.
Situated between the South West and Albany Highways, the town provides an ideal chance to leave the hustle and bustle of city life and relax and enjoy the pretty scenery of the surrounds.
Boyup Brook is host to the annual Country Music festival in February, the Mayanup Camp draft in March, Harvey Dickson’s Country Music Show in September, Harvey Dickson Rodeo and Blackwood Marathon in October.
Activities can be as varied as tackling the town walk, catching up with the district’s history, or visiting renowned local artist, Sandy Chambers, the Carnaby Beetle and Butterfly collection, the Museum, and the Roo Gully Wildlife Sanctuary.
In recent times, with modern machinery and the rich loamy soils, crops of canola, wheat, barley and oats have become profitable, and vineyards and olive groves are also springing up. Some farms are now tree plantations.
