The Darling Ranges just 30kms east of the city provides a mountainous backdrop to Perth and is a good day trip destination. The lush green scenic surrounds offer excellent picnic areas beside dams, waterfalls and in the many national parks. The hills also offer a particularly good picture of Perth by night and the ocean by day.
During the wildflower season the Perth hills are ideal for bushwalking, before enjoying a devonshire tea at one of the local cafes. Visit the Araluen Country Club for a round of golf, or to view the tulip festival in the later half of the year. Meander through the local galleries where resident artists sell their product, or purchase some of the local orchard produce from the roadside when in season.
A full range of dining experiences from award winning five star restaurants to all fast food chains are available. Restaurants are often found in picturesque settings and offer cuisine from many cultures - a wonderful by product of the multicultural mix of Hills residents.
A range of bed and breakfasts, villas, motel and caravan accommodation is available in the Armadale/Roleystone region.
