As testament to the prestige and popularity that the tournament enjoys globally, the Hyundai Hopman Cup consistently attracts the world's best tennis players to Perth. In the nineteen-year history, the tournament has attracted eighteen world number one players.
The eight team field is made up from invitations being extended to the leading men’s and women’s player from seven major tennis playing nations including the Host nation, Australia and the Defending Champion nation. The eighth place in the field is awarded to the winner of the Asian Hopman Cup which will be held in India during November 2007 and is played between all of the leading Asian tennis countries.
