The ringing of the Swan Bells has now become a touchstone for Australian and international tourists. It is one of the largest musical instruments on Earth, housing the twelve bells of Saint Martin in the Fields church, the parish church of Buckingham Palace, as well as five specially cast bells were presented to the University of Western Australia, the City of Perth and to the people of Western Australia.
Recorded as being in existence from before the 14th century, The original twelve bells have rung out to celebrate England's victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588, the homecoming of Captain James Cook after his voyage of discovery in 1771 and the World War II victory at El Alamein. The bells have also rung in the New Year at Trafalgar Square for more than 275 years, and have celebrated the coronation of every British monarch since King George II in 1727.

The Bell Tower offers tourists fascinating displays on the history of the bells and bell ringing, as well as This building’s defining feature has recently been significantly added to with the installation of a state of the art audiovisual system that allows simultaneous viewing of the bells and ringers as well as delivering historical and venue specific DVD material for visitors. The Swan Bells has recently acquired and displayed a rare collection of Asian Bells and is actively seeking cultural artefacts, including bells and clocks from other countries. One such piece is a large late-Victorian turret clock, rescued from the famous demolished Grandstand at Royal Ascot Racecourse. The tower library also holds a significant collection of rare books and journals papers.
