Along the Tanami Road, approximately 60 kilometres south of Halls Creek, is a dot on the map called Ruby Plains. Today remains the Ruby Plains Cattle Station.

The Tanami Road, which runs through Ruby Plains, goes all the way through to Alice Springs...the 1050 kilometre journey is the most direct and adventurous road route linking Halls Creek to Alice Springs.

Ruby Plains is also a destination or 'camp site' along The Canning Stock Route, the longest and most remote Stock Route in the world.

Famous Aboriginal artist Rover Thomas, (Julama) painting 'Ruby Plains Killings' is one in a series of eight paintings that illustrate three incidents of conflict that occurred between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people earlier this century in the eastern Kimberley. The work is rated in the top 10 most valued australian indigenous paintings by price paid in the last 10 years.
