A mind blowing fourteen nights from Broome to Wyndham with each day more spectacular than the last. We could not have wished for more.
The trip my wife Carole and I chose was in April 2007. It had been a good Kimberley "Wet " which meant the waterfalls and greenery were at their best. The weather was balmy with one evening's half hour of a tropical rain and electrical storm signalling the end of the "Wet Season".
The seven crew aboard Kimberley Quest 2 ensured we sixteen passengers were treated to a five star experience. The knowledgeable crew answered all questions and there was an extensive information library on board. Our group were around retirement age but this didn't hold anyone back. The staff ensured we safely got into and out of the tenders for shore and river excursions.
We visited all the famous waterfalls and many un-named falls. Words cannot describe the thrill and exhilaration of sitting under falls with fresh warm water cascading over our bodies. The Mitchell Falls and Berkeley River gorges followed by the 80 and 90 metre falls in the King George River were equal highlights.
The thousands of islands, Montgomery Reef, Sale River, Prince Regent's King Cascades, Captain Philip Parker King's famous Boab Tree inscribed with his ship's name (Mermaid) and the year 1820 were highlights that can only be reached by boat.
Clear star-studded night skies followed most mornings by exciting Barramundi fishing excursions. We also caught mud crabs. There were many other highlights but realistically you have to make this trip to see what I haven't mentioned.
Upon arrival in Wyndham Carole and I supplemented our trip with a two days stay in Wyndham. The spectacular sunset from the 1000-foot high Bastion was the best we've ever seen. We next spent two days in Kununurra, which seemed like a bustling metropolis.
Air North back to Broome then drove to Derby where we had a thoroughly enjoyable few days. Finally back to Broome and the flight home to Perth. Thanks must go to Melissa at Kimberley Cruise Centre for her friendly help in putting our trip together. This trip is worth every cent.
