Famous for its wildflower displays and wineries, Mount Barker is primarily a sheep and cattle farming district set just 45mins northwest of Albany.
Mount Barker is situated at the centre of the Great Southern wine region, which has become a major wine producing area since the first vine was planted way back in 1967.
All major grape varieties are grown in the area, and Mount Barker is a great base for you to tour the wine cellars, many of which are open for tastings.
The town is the administrative centre of the Shire of Plantagenet and offers an excellent selection of shopping and recreational facilities.
There is ample accommodation to choose from, including hotels, motels, cottages, bed and breakfast, a caravan park and backpacker facilities.
Mt Barker Visitor Centre itself occupies renovated railway buildings on Albany Highway.
