Madura was settled in 1876 as a place to breed horses for the Indian Army. Today it is a welcome stop when traversing the Nullarbor. Madura Oasis Motel sits at the bottom of Madura Pass with the hills of the Hampton Tablelands as a backdrop. Visit the Madura Pass lookout for panoramic views of the coastal plains.

Madura Pass - Panoramic views of the coastal plains are available as you ascend the escarpment above the town. The original pass road is still accessible near the motel and winds up into the scarp over a kilometre or so. Along the way one may encounter a natural 'blow-hole'.

  • Blowhole - Part way down the Old Madura Pass is another of the regions many blowholes. It is not easily found, but is a point of interest.

Getting There

  • 1255 kilometres E of Perth
  • Coach route from Perth to Adelaide
