Wongan Hills is a prosperous grain sheep and pig producing district. The district was first discovered in 1836, the townsite was proclaimed in 1911 which was the first year the railway arrived and local Government was established in 1916.The town takes its name from the range of flat topped hills lying to the north west, these hills are the largest single area of natural vegetation remaining in the northern wheatbelt.
Visitors are well catered for with accommodation available at the Hotel/Motel which has 23 rooms plus 10 self-contained motel units, the Guesthouse also has 12 well appointed rooms. The Caravan Park has a wide range of different accommodation available and has made a recent upgrade to its facilities. The local Roadhouse offers seven day service for fuel and food.
