Peron Peninsula 

Peron Peninsula lies within the Carnarvon Basin, a geological structure lacking permanent fresh surface water. In the late 1800's, when pastoral stations such as Peron were established, shallow beach wells were built to provide ground water of marginal quality for stock. During the early 1900's, artesian bores were sunk to provide greater quantity and quality of water. Artesian water is hot, varying in temperature from 35-60 degrees celsius in the Carnarvon Basin. Temperature increases as the rock that stores the water becomes deeper and closer to the earth's core.

Artesian water often has a high salt and mineral content The artesian bore at Peron Homestead has been developed into a recreational 'hot tub' for the public to enjoy. Please take note of the signs which specify the requirements for minimizing health risks when using the tub.
