Ningaloo reef on Western Australia's mid north coast, has gained an impressive reputation as the place to dive with hundreds of tropical fish, colourful coral and the whale shark. The marine park stretches 260 kilometres from Bundegi Reef near the town of Exmouth to Amherst Point near Coral Bay in the south. Stretching 20 kilometres seaward, it encompasses a massive 5,000 square kilometres of ocean, 500 species of tropical fish and 220 species of coral.

Ningaloo reef is one of the largest fringing reefs in the world. Its uniqueness lies in its accessibility, you can get to it just by stepping off the beach.

Things to do

  • Dive beside a whale shark between April and June
  • Snorkel or dive with manta rays and schools of brightly coloured fish in clear turquoise water
  • See rare turtle species hatch in late January and February
  • Explore the small fishing towns of Exmouth or Coral Bay
  • Go 4WD at Cape Range National Park. See the amazing red rock canyons and gorges
