Half Way Beach

Perhaps the most used by the local community is Half Way. Called Half Way because of it's location being half way to Kalbarri.

Again we travel the Port Gregory Road, passing Yerina Springs sign and old convict settlement. This time we turn right 2 kilometres past the Lynton ruins into grey road (sign posted).

Driving along the Hutt lagoon, a dry salt lake, referred to locally as the pink lakes. It looks like an inland sea and the water has a distinctive pink colour, due to the natural presence of Beta-Caratine which is being mined for use as a food colouring.

Follow the Balline Road along the lagoon for 22 kilometres, watching for a track to the left (no signs). If you miss the turn off, you will pass a driveway on the right which goes into Balline Homestead approximately 1 kilometre past the Half Way turn. Go back, follow this winding, sandy track in a north-westerly direction for approximately 2 kilometres down to the beach.
