Warburton was established as a gold mining settlement when gold was discovered in the Yarra River in 1864. The town is surrounded by lush, thick forests in the picturesque Yarra River Valley, where life has a beguiling habit of moving at little more than walking pace.
There are many things to do in Warburton, especially to keep you active. Try bushwalking through the magnificent forests of the Upper Yarra Valley, or canoeing and fishing on the serene waterways. Play a round of golf at one of the country courses or see the countryside on horse back. See platypuses along the Yarra River or the wonderful bridges inviting you to wander along both sides of the river along the Warburton Track or enjoy en easy 1.6km walk along Four Mile Creek to the La La Falls.
The Warburton Rail Trail spans 42km from Lilydale to Warburton where there was originally a railway track. Enjoy this wonderful scenic trail on foot or by bicycle, either way is just as rewarding.
