Leongatha is a town in the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges in South Gippsland. Situated 133 kilometres southeast of Melbourne, the town is the educational commercial and civic centre of the area, with around 6,500 people living in the town itself, and 25,000 in the surrounding region.

The Devondale label, has a processing plant just north of the town producing milk-based products for Australian and overseas markets.

The Leongatha Food and Wine Festival showcase the region's extensive food and wine industry and is held annually in January. This is especially showcasing the dairy produce.

  • Leongatha is the start of the well-known Great Southern Rail Trail. Opening just south of the Leongatha railway station, it consists of a 53 kilometre cycling, horse riding and walking trail which covers much of the way south-east to Foster.
