The Australian Open 2010 returns to Melbourne Park from the 18th to 31st January after an amazing 2009 Gram Slam mens final between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

The Australian Open 2010 is 1 of only 4 Grand Slam tennis tournaments in the world and the first of the year. The Australian Open event has played every January in Melbourne since 1972 and at Melbourne Park since 1988.

World no 1 Roger Federer is set to be the mens favourite this year along with Novac Djokovic, whilst world no 2 Rafael Nadal will be back to defend his title that he won for the first time last year. Nadal now is said to be on good form after having a short time to prepare due to injuries in 2009.

In the 2009 womens tennis Serena Williams won her 4th Australian Open and returns to defend her title. Both Williams and Sharapova are past champions in Melbourne, and are strong favourites to win the womens title this year. Sharapova won the 2008 Australian Open but was unable to defend her title in last years tournament due to her shoulder injury.
