Take a trip to Elwood and you'll find it difficult to believe that this trendy area was once just a swamp. Large period houses and art deco dwellings line the exclusive beach side streets juxtaposed by the vision of Melbourne skyline.

During summer it is a favourite amongst many windsurfers, cyclists, and people enjoying a walk or watching one of the several triathlons held at the beach each year. Facilities at the beach include BBQs, playgrounds, tennis courts, an angling club, lifesaving and boating clubs, and a no boating zone for swimmers. The southern part of the beach is set aside for water skiers.

Things to do

  • Stroll to the foreshore to see the wonderful view, enjoy the many cafes and bars in the village
  • Walk to neaby St Kilda and catch the ferry to Williamstown from the pier
  • Visit the Esplanade Markets
  • Luna Park is in close proximity
  • Have coffee and cake in Acland Street
  • Have a round of golf at Elsternwick golf course
  • Catch a movie at the Classic Cinema
  • Cycle the Bayside Trail bicycle and roller-skating path
  • Relax at Elwood Park or Point Ormond Reserve

Getting There
