Trentham, located on the Great Dividing Range, was first surveyed in 1864 and proclaimed a town in 1868. Although small, Trentham's history reflects a diverse background: gold and timber, farming and even manufacturing. First came the squatters in 1837 followed the timber cutters in the 1850's.
It is a quiet, picturesque country town nestled amongst the tall timbers of the Wombat forest, which boasts a wide range of luxury accomodation and fine dining experiences.
The Trentham Falls Reserve provides the best example of what the vegetation would have been like in the Trentham region before colonisation. Trentham Falls, Victoria's highest single drop waterfall plunges 32m over basalt columns. At the base of the falls, quartz gravel, the former river bed, can be seen.
The town boasts an hotel, a bowling club, a sports ground and popular golf course, a swimming pool and tennis courts. Fishing can be rewarding along the banks of the Coliban River.
