Woodend has long been recognised as a stop-off location for travellers heading north west, conveniently located some 70km north-west of Melbourne, the town has long provided for travellers starting when early settlers and then the diggers heading for the goldfields.
In the times after the goldrush Woodend became a resort with many guest houses, large private gardens, a racecourse, golf club and hotels. Today the town continues to have the ambience of a resort town. The streetscape features the historical clock tower, and includes antiques, crafts and fine foods.
Attractions include Woodend Cemetery, historic bluestone architecture, an extensive parks system, historic streetscapes and the historic clock tower.
