Originally European settlement focused to the north of Lancefield on the bank of Deep Creek, original building can still be seen on this spot. The explorers Burke & Wills camped at Lancefield in 1860 and a stone memorial was placed to commemorate them along with the naming of Burke and Wills track.
Lancefield's streetscape features wide median strip, historic buildings, established gardens and statuesque trees. This peaceful town offers a main attraction of the Antique Centre of Victoria, which is crammed with 3 storeys of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian antiques from the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA.
