We turned up while Driving along the Calder Highway and we were hanging for a few frothies and a bite to eat, so we rocked in about 5.30 pm on a Friday night. It had a usual crowd of regulars by the looks of it and just a standard country pub. We decided to go and eat in the restaurant. We walked into the Iron Pot Restaurant and it looks like it has just had a major face lift, 2 open fire places and decor was nice, even with the white table clothes and that’s something you never see in a Pub. The menu catered for every taste and not just the standard run of the mill food, but for a country pub to have what they had on offer was great value for price but the taste of it was truly a memorable experience. My wife has the Vegetable stack which consisted of a garlic mash base with grilled egg plant, grilled zucchini, fried mushrooms, semi sundried tomato, artichoke, carrot, broccoli and dressed with the most amazing port and balsamic reduction without the runniness of oils all over the plate. The steak I has was an aged Scotch fillet. Apparently the chef buys in Sides of beef and ages them for about 3 weeks in their cool room before he cuts the potions down to serve to the customers, only 2 choices of steak because it depends on what the chef has on offer. I had the scotch fillet topped with a port Juz, I swear to the man above it was the best steak I have ever tasted in my life... it just melted in my mouth like a piece of butter. For the entree , the minister of war and fiancé had the bruschetta which was served on a piece of toasted Turkish loaf of bread and I had the pumpkin Soup, served with a piece of crusty bread. It was like I was addicted to the food in this place. Seriously, the food is to die for, Diggers Rest Hotel is Victoria's Best kept Secret for foodies, you want to try some of the best food which Victoria has to offer, eat in the Iron Pot Restaurant, I can assure you wont be disappointed. The only thing which would have topped off the night was they didn’t have a good espresso coffee machine to finish off the meal with a grand fathers port. Happy and safe travelling.
