The 4.5km track follows the Goulburn River and is suitable for wheelchairs, walkers, joggers, cyclists and skaters. It begins behind Somerset Winery and ends at where Whiteheads Creek enters the Goulburn but can be accessed at numerous points. The Trail affords the opportunity to view some magnificent scenery historic sites and native wildlife. Viewing platforms, seating and picnic tables are located throughout the walk.

The Goulburn River is classified under the National Trust as a heritage river. The historic bridge, a remanant of the old route from Melbourne to Sydney, is still in tact however not accessable. Pylons from the original wooden punt wharf are also still clearly visible.

Along the river trail keep an eye out for birdlife such as currawongs, sacred kingfishers and wood ducks. Mammal species such as eastern grey kangaroos, koalas, common brushtail possums and platypus are also present but sometimes are harder to spot.
