Beechworth 

Beechworth is one of the best preserved 19th century gold mining towns in Australia. The streetscape is beautifully inviting, with many of its perfectly preserved historic buildings built of the same honey-coloured granite.

One of Australia's richest goldfields, the town is home to the courthouse where Ned Kelly's final trial commenced, and is close to the Rutherglen, Milawa and Beechworth wine regions.

With over 30 buildings listed by the National Trust, Beechworth has a remarkable architectural heritage, from its imposing hotels to churches and government offices.

Beechworth’s current claims to fame are its growing number of microbreweries, the to-die-for range of Beechworth Honey, its regional fine food and the renowned Beechworth Bakery.

Popular local events include the Chinese Lantern Festival in February, Beechworth Harvest Celebration in May, Ned Kelly Weekend in August and Beechworth Celtic Festival in November.

Beechworth is located 267km, approximately 3 hours drive, from Melbourne via the Hume Freeway, Great Alpine Road and Wangaratta-Beechworth Road.
