This small Victorian region has shown it is capable of producing wines of the highest quality. The region's producers grow a range of varieties with a focus on pinot noir, riesling and chardonnay, which thrive in the cool climate. Fortified wine, verjuice and organically certified wine are also feature products from this region.

The Beechworth region is in northwest Victoria in the foothills of the alps and has a cool and frosty sub-alpine climate.

The soils vary, with elevation from the Ovens Valley flood plain to 552m at Beechworth. The flood plain has fertile sandy alluvial soils and on the higher elevations are older soils, reddish brown in colour.

The history of the region can best be experienced in the town of Beechworth, which has taken great care to preserve its heritage. Vines were originally planted to produce wine for the goldfields, but today's vineyards have all been planted from the 1970s.
