The wineries of northeast Victoria’s Rutherglen Wine Region are the state’s most popular destination for winery visitors. Campbells Wines, located in the foothills 3km west of the quaint and historic town of Rutherglen on the Murray Valley Highway, is one of the top 10 most visited wineries in Victoria.
Campbells have over four generations of winemaking knowledge, decades of aged stocks and some of the most modern winemaking technology available. Situated entirely within the defined Rutherglen Wine Region, the vineyards total approximately 64 hectares of trailed and proven varieties. Rutherglen’s warm and dependable climate is in many ways similar to the Rhone region of France, and it comes as no surprise that the Rhone specialties of Shiraz (known as Syrah in France) and Durif prosper here.
Awards
Campbells is believed to be the only winery in the world to win gold medals for both table and fortified wines at the world’s largest wine exhibition, the London International Wine Challenge. They achieved this unique feat in 1998 with the Bobbie Burns Shiraz and Merchant Prince Muscat. Also, Campbells Rutherglen Riesling was awarded the trophy for the Best Victorian Dry White Wine for three consecutive years at the Melbourne Wine Show.
