Situated mid point between Alexandra and Eildon, Thornton is best known as the home of the Trout Rivers Opening Festival.
Trout is an important feature of this town, from the festival celebrating the annual opening of the fishing season, as local produce and through the three major rivers of the Goulburn, Rubicon and Acheron ideal for fly fishing and all forming an integral part of the town.
