Tawonga 

Nestled high up in the lush green Kiewa Valley at the foot of Mt Bogong, the townships of Mt Beauty and Tawonga together form the gateway to the alpine recreation areas of Falls Creek Alpine Resort and the Bogong High Plains. Tawonga is a major town centre providing lots of accommodation and an alternative to the skiing and outdoor hype.

Tawonga Gap lookout provides amazing views to Mount Bogong (Victoria's highest peak) and all of the Kiewa Valley. Further down the Tawonga Gap road is Sullivans Lookout providing closer views.

• The high altitude means the plains see a dramatic transformation according to the season; in winter much of it is blanketed in snow, in the summer it is a sea of natural colour with about 280 species of flowering plants including heath, wildflowers and grasses.
