Located on the Great Alpine Road between Wangaratta and Bright, Myrtleford is an agricultural town situated in the foothills of the Mt Buffalo Range, adjacent the Ovens River. It is a gateway to Mt Buffalo National Park and the ski resorts of the region.
The town is surrounded by beautiful scenery, flowing alpine rivers and spectacular mountain views that combine to provide a sense of tranquillity that draws visitors. Nestled in the Ovens Valley, Myrtleford is blessed with the dramatic backdrop of Mt Buffalo.
Myrtleford is a local commercial centre for the district's timber, hops, tobacco and wine grape industries. It is still possible to see some of the tobacco kilns from the Great Alpine Road and the district is the largest producer of hops in Australia.
