Buchan 

355 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, Buchan is nestled in a picturesque valley and is a prime adventure destination. Best known for spectacular underground limestone caves, Buchan, originally named Bukan—Mungie, meaning ‘the place of rocks with holes in them’, also retains a history as one of Victoria's oldest European settlements with log cabins and timber buildings.

Buchan makes the perfect starting spot for your adventure into the Snowy River and Alpine national Parks. Here you can heighten your adventurous senses going whitewater rafting, four wheel driving, abseiling or trail riding in the pristine high country. For the bushwalking enthusiast, the National Parks are perfect. Walk amongst the towering forests, discover the local wildlife and breathe in the fresh crisp snowy mountain air.

Follow the Buchan Gelantipy Road to Little River Gorge, Victoria's deepest gorge, and wonder at the beautiful waterfall from the clifftop lookout. McKillop's Bridge has access to the Snowy River by conventional vehicle.
