This corner of the Bellarine Peninsula boasts the wreck of the bay paddle steamer 'the Ozone' only a few metres from the shore. The paddle steamer once operated between Melbourne and Queenscliff but was scuttled in 1925. It now rests in shallow water just offshore in Half Moon Bay, Indented Head.
Kelp, and other varieties of seaweed dance to the gentle waves while an abundance of toadfish, whiting, stingrays, angelfish and small flathead fish weave in and around the wreck.
The ideal time to explore the Ozone is at low tide. Keep an eye out for one of the hired boats. If they come in be sure to observe the pelicans as they wait patiently for fishy bits.
