At around 102 500 hectares, the Great Otway National Park is a new and distinctive national treasure. It links what was the Otway National Park, Angahook - Lorne State Park, Carlisle State Park, Melba Gully State Park and state forest areas. Otway Forest encompasses almost 40 000 hectares of mountain and foothill forests extending from the main ridge of the Otway Ranges to the undulating plains and plateaus further inland.
The Otway's are perfect for a wide variety of recreational and nature based activities. Some of the most rugged and inaccessible coastline in Victoria lies in the parks. View abundant wildlife - Swamp Wallabies, koalas, Ring-tailed Possums and Grey Kangaroos are common, and Tiger Quoll and Yellow-bellied Gliders are present, though rarely seen. Rainforests and mountain ash trees contrast with coastal heathlands and open woodlands. Towering Myrtle Beech trees and their under-storey of dense tree-ferns can be seen on the Maits Rest walk and at Melba Gully.
