Located between the Calder Highway, and the Murray River, the magnificent ‘Red Cliffs’ is 530 kilometres northwest of Melbourne and only 16 kilometres from Mildura.

Red Cliffs accurately describes the ruddiness of the 70-metre cliffs to the east of the town – providing the town with its namesake. Red Cliffs is a quaint town steeped in history, a typical Australian friendly community. Local attractions include the Lindemans Winery Homwood Estate, Nursery Ridge Estate Winery, Big Lizzie, Woodwork Studio, Carringbush Glass Gallery, and the Red Cliffs Historical Steam Railway.

Known as the home to the largest Irrigated Soldiers Settlement in Australia, developed after World War 1, Red Cliffs housed around 700 Returned Soldiers. Clearing of the Mallee Scrub began in 1920, to make way for 15-acre lots; Government purchased 33,000 acres idyllic for the production of dried fruit. Mr Frank Bottrill and “Big Lizzie” cleared the land for this purpose. Today the region is abundant in Wine Production and is credited with just under 40% of Australian Wine Production.

  • This enchanting area is perfect for boating, fishing, camping, picnicking and bushwalking along the banks of the Murray River.
