Situated between Swan Hill and Kerang, the Kerang Lakes area is a valuable natural resource home to more than 150 native plants and animals. 300km from Melbourne, the site is a popular getaway for sightseeing, sailing, swimming, fishing, and bird watching.
These permanent lakes and intermittent wetlands are home to the largest Ibis rookery in Victoria, attracting more than 200,000 nesting Ibis annually. Popular with birdwatchers, the best times to view the Ibis are at dawn or dusk when they depart and return to their nests.
The Kerang Lakes area consists of permanent freshwater lakes and wetlands including Reedy Lake, Lake Charm, Lake Tuctchewop and the Top, Middle and Bottom Marshes.
