The Pyrenees wine region is situated amongst the Pyrenees ranges in Victoria. The main towns of the region are Avoca, Moonambel and Redbank. Most of the wineries and vinyards are centred around these towns.
The temperate climate of this area varies due to the differing elevation of the ranges. The soil conditions are acidic, mainly sandy loams that have a good drainage quality.
The modern stage of the regions establishment advanced in the 1960's, after a halt in production following the gold rush in the 1940's. This region rose to the differing consumer market, now producing wines of many distinct varieties and flavours.
This region produces many wine varieties, both sparkling and table wines. But the outstanding production of two in particular are receiving special recognition.
The Pyrenees wine region is very accommodating for the wine enthusiast, offering many cellar doors and scenic routes to explore.
