Dunolly is a small attractive town whose main street is lined with kurrajongs and golden boom-time architecture. It started out as a gold mining town and was part of the district known as the 'Golden Triangle', which turned up more gold nuggets than any other region in Australia, and was the site where the largest gold nugget in the world, the 'Welcome Stranger', was found in 1869.
The area is now used for farming primarily, though goldmining still occurs in the area.
Dunolly has many activities and attractions to enjoy such as exploring the region along one of four bicycle paths that form the Golden Triangle network. See a replica of the 'Welcome Stranger' at the Goldfields Historical and Arts Museum or park your caravan at the Laanecoorie Reservoir, one of Victoria’s first reservoirs, and enjoy a range of water sports and walks.
