Located 185 km east of Melbourne via the Princes Highway. Rosedale became established as a service centre in the middle of Snake Ridge Run at the point where the track crosses the Latrobe River. It used to be a dairy and mixed farming district but is now mainly grazing.
Rosedale once was a staging post on the Port Albert to Sale coach run, now it is the administrative centre of the Rosedale shire which extends to the east and includes Ninety Mile Beach.
