Strahan and the west coast was a real highlight of our recent visit to Tasmania. We spent two nights in Strahan, and loved the place. I recommend visitors to take the World Heritage Tours afternoon/evening cruise of the Gordon River and Macquarie Harbour - buy dinner as well; it's well worth the extra cost. The rest of our time was spent walking and 4wd'ing Ocean Beach (wish I'd packed the fishing gear). Would come back again for another visit when we come back to Tassie. I can't speak highly enough in particular of the staff at the Visitor Information Centre in Strahan. The staff are helpful, friendly and very well informed about not only their part of the state, but also other areas. I wish I knew about them before coming over, as I would have used their knowledge, expertise and contacts to arrange accommodation and activity bookings. I definitely will when we come back to see and visit areas we didn't have time to do this time around....
