The beautiful tiny historic gold-mining town of Corrnia is located 60 kilometres north of Strahan, and just 15 kilometres from the wild west coast. This makes Corinna the perfect base to explore this relatively unexplored part of Tasmania. Once a thriving gold-mining town, Corinna boasted a population of 2500 people. These days it basks in tranquillity as its resident population is just 5.
Because of its location, at the edge of the largest temperate pristine rainforest in Australia, Corinna is astonishingly beautiful. It also sits on the banks of the majestic Pieman River. There are cruises along this, in the remarkable and legendary huon pine vessel, Arcadia II.
Corinna is a must for nature lovers and historians, there are rewarding walks southeast to the dam forming Lake Pieman and northwest to the wild and romantic Pieman Gorge. Restored miners cottages, an old pub and a general store make up the landscape. The more adventurous can explore nature and mining history along the Whyte, Savage and Donaldson rivers. There is a unique 6km long water race that feeds a hydraulic sluice near Mt Donaldson, a relic from the mining days.
