Best way to travel to Tassie!

Posted by JosephineM from Geelong, Australia

We have travelled to Tasmania seven times over the last few years, five times have been on the Spirit.

We definitely include this trip as part of our holiday. We love travelling on the Spirit. We have worked out what we don't like (sitting up overnight) and what we really love about the trip.

We've had no trouble sleeping in the beds - the cabins are nothing fancy, but fine for an overnight trip. We love looking out the windows as the ship is leaving and arriving. On our next trip, in August, we'll be testing out one of the deluxe cabins, just for fun!

The restaurant is excellent - the food is always delicious, and the staff are uniformly friendly and helpful. Prices are quite reasonable for restaurant-quality meals.

The tourist information centre is also always a handy and useful place to check out.

Taking our own car is convenient and cheap, and has major benefits over hiring a car in Tasmania. We can bring along whatever luggage we want, and have plenty of room to take back our souvenirs.

We would recommend the trip to anyone.

Pay for top grade cabin, get lower grade

Posted by freda from Glen Waverley, Australia

I booked & paid for a twin porthole cabin. These show on the site, twin beds with a porthole between through which you see the sea. All twin porthole cabins are like this.

And they are expensive.

This was a special weekend only expensive trip for me and my son who had just graduated after 6 years study and is working untold hours.
What we got was a cabin the same size and crammed with 2 double bunks.

The porthole was there, when I opened the curtain I looked straight into the eyes of a man climbing the stairs just outside. Beyond him was not a sea view but a wall of stacked lifeboats.

Overhead there was ---and is still there waiting for you--a light like a street light pointing straight down the porthole.

When I complained this was not what I booked and paid for, I got told "we don't have enough twin berth porthole cabins".

Please note as well, the expensive restaurant onboard books out by the time most people board with cars. The other food is terrible and expensive.

Response from Spirit of Tasmania

Dear Freda

As outlined in our correspondence we are extremely disappointed that we were unable to meet your expectations and did not respond to your complaint in a positive manner.

Naturally, in response to your concerns we have refunded the difference between an inside and porthole cabin and are pricing this particular cabin accordingly.

In relation to your feedback regarding our staff we will address each of your comments with an appropriate internal review. If you would like an update on our progress please contact me directly via our website.

Again Freda, we strive to deliver best customer service. Your feedback is appreciated as it provides us with the opportunity to challenge our existing customer service delivery.

Yours faithfully
