Situated 164 km east of Launceston via Gladstone and Pioneer, Ansons Bay is a small fishing village in the far north eastern coast of Tasmania. Ansons Bay is within easy reach of St. Helens. Historically the area was nautically known as 'The Bay o' Fires'. Although isolated for many years, the village has an air of antiquity, dating back to 1830. Presently it has moved with the times of modern life. Famous since its beginning as a premier bream fishing resort, Ansons Bay also provides all the advantages for a quiet coastal holiday destination, as do many similar places on the east coast of Tasmania.

From 'The She-oak Hills, which face the Pacific Ocean from behind the bay, a stunning view obtainable of the coastline, and the lower lands that flank the sea shore.
