To the south of Ringarooma and Legerwood lies the old gold mining town of Alberton, a small hamlet in the north eastern part of Tasmania. Approximately 6 kilometres away is Mt Victoria and slightly further afield is Mt Blackboy and Mt Saddleback. The area has been described as one of the prettiest areas of the highland country.
There are excellent views from Mathina Hill and the road through the Mt Victoria Forest is considered to be very attractive with numerous bushwalks available.
There are a number of conveniences in nearby Ringarooma which include a general store, butcher, hairdresser, hotel and a primary school. People wishing to explore the area will need their own transport as the nearest train station Turners Marsh is 55 kilometres away.
