Bowthorpe Farm is an historic farmhouse and gardens in Longford, northern Tasmania. Longford is a classified historic town, a 30-minute drive south of Launceston.
Built in 1835, Bowthorpe is a graceful Georgian farm house of historic significance set among important stands of ancient oaks and elms.
You can stroll through the English-style country garden or take a walk along hawthorn-lined lanes to the South Esk River. You can also enjoy Devonshire tea in the tea house, and purchase seeds of traditional and heirloom cottage plants gathered from Bowthorpe’s gardens.
There are a number of historic gardens in the Longford area, and many of them open for viewing as part of the Australian Open Garden Scheme. Others are open throughout the year including Bowthorpe, Brickendon, and Woolmers Estate, which features the National Rose Garden.
