0 reviews | Write a review

The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery is the largest museum and art gallery in Australia located outside a capital city and is administered by the Launceston City Council, with continuing financial support from the Tasmanian State Government. It enjoys an enviable reputation and national profile for its collections of Australian colonial art, contemporary craft and design, Tasmanian history and natural sciences.

The Museum is located on two sites: the original purpose-built building in Royal Park and the Inveresk site, once the Launceston Railway Workshops. The development of the Launceston Railway Workshops is a story of transformation. Stage one was the development of the Tasmanian Conservation Centre, which provided the State with national standard conservation laboratories and workshops. It enjoys a national profile for its collections of Australian colonial art, contemporary craft and design, Tasmanian history and natural sciences.

The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery is the cultural heartbeat of Launceston and the perfect gateway to Tasmania's history and character. It tells the story of the lives and time’s and place in which we have lived. Enjoy the special journey!
