Australasian Golf Museum

0 reviews | Write a review

The Australasian Golf Museum is situated at Bothwell because it can claim to have the oldest golf course in the southern hemisphere. There is documented evidence that golf was played on the course at the Ratho property from the mid 1830s!

Founded in 1996 by former Australian champion golfer, Peter Toogood, the museum is housed in a sandstone heritage building, formerly the State Primary School. It displays items of national and international significance.

Prominent Australians who have given their support and donations to the museum include Greg Norman, Peter Thomson, Lindy Goggin, Norman Von Nida, the Toogood and Nettlefold families and Ian Baker-Finch, who donated his 1991 British Open-winning putter and sand iron.

Further Information

Tasmanian amateur champion Peter Toogood collected golfing memorabilia on display in the museum. The history of Tasmanian, Australian and international players who have played in Tasmania is covered and there is information on some Tasmanian female golfers, including Lindy Goggin and Betty Dalgleish.
