A medium horticultural settlement located opposite Renmark on the Murray River, 270km east of Adelaide on the Sturt Highway between Adelaide and Mildura.
In 1913 it became the first Murray town to become connected to Adelaide by rail. The Paringa Suspension Bridge was opened in 1927 and is only one of four spanning the River Murray in South Australia.
Paringa is the home of many of the River Murray's houseboats that are moored between Lock 5 and the Paringa Bridge. The caravan park and the Paringa Hotel-Motel provide excellent country style hospitality, and there are very pleasant picnic areas bordering the river.
