Piccaninnie Ponds is one of Australia’s best, and most breathtaking, diving spots. Covering an area of 550ha, the conservation park is also an important site for migratory and wading birds.
On the surface, Ewens Ponds look just like a dam or swamp… but underneath it’s an aquatic paradise with perfect conditions for rare animals and plants.
Visitors can snorkel across the top of 'The Chasm' and peer into the dark depths below. With visibility can exceed 40 metres, this is one of the most spectacular underwater sites in South Australia.
Situated just 30km from Mt Gambier, permits for cave diving and snorkelling are available from the National Parks & Wildlife Service.
Entry Fees
Diving at the Piccaninnie Ponds is $10 per dive. Please note, the site is for registered cave divers only. Snorkelling is $5/hr for adults and $3 for kids.
