Courthouse Gallery And Old Courthouse Museum

0 reviews | Write a review

The Old Courthouse Bay Road, was once the centre for law enforcement for the region, and still retains original courtroom furniture. It is the site of several important criminal trials and today is a popular venue for Mock Trials.

The Courthouse Gallery is located in Mount Gambier's Old Courthouse complex, which was opened in 1865 and experienced continuous use until the new Courthouse was built in 1975.

Visitors can sit in the jury box, visit the judge's chamber, inspect the cells and listen to audio courtroom drama. The Courthouse is also used for mock trials by school and adult groups of all ages. Gowns and wigs are supplied. Active participation is encouraged and much hilarity occurs. Courthouse Gallery sells a good variety of attractive craftwork.
