Technically Appila Springs forms part of the Road Reserve adjacent to Section 227 of Tarcowie. It is a natural spring, widely used in the late 1800's to stock water travelling to the Jamestown or Gladstone markets. The area is now a favourite picnic spot with basic park type furniture doubling as a camping ground. The Appila Progress Association have installed a new environmentally friendly toilet block at the site.
The area around the springs is rich in native vegetation and local environmental groups hold regular seed collection activities at the site. The road leading into the springs has been planted with trees by the local Greening Australia group.
