Relax and enjoy the superb views of more than 200 hectares of the spectacular and ancient Flinders Ranges. The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden provides a national focus for arid-zone ecosystem conservation.

Most Australians live in densely populated coastal regions and few are familiar with the unique plant and animal life which flourishes in arid Australia. The garden aims to increase both popular and scientific understanding of our arid-zone environments. While being an educational visiting spot, it is also breath takingly beautiful and an easy day lost to the wilderness.

Flora and FaunaGaze to the heavens and be engulfed by the stunning colours of the birdlife, or look under a rock and study one of the many friendly but timid geckos. Conservation areas of natural flora, notably the Eremophila garden with possibly the largest collection of this genus anyhwere can be enjoyed in the garden. Mammals of Arid Australia roam freely, while a plethora of weird and wild native flowers blossom.

  • For the flower buffs, look out for Sturt's desert pea, regal birdflower, soft billy buttons, velvet-leafed hibiscus, bush minuria, red-flower lotus, andamooka lily, fleshy groundsel, poachched egg daisy and desert rattlepod.
