Located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, Myponga is the hub of lush grazing and dairy country where herds of Friesian cows are often joined at dusk by mobs of grey kangaroos. Only an hour’s drive south of Adelaide, Myponga is also home to a blooming floriculture and nursery industry fuelled by the local water reservoir. The unique specialist nurseries are open to public on a seasonal basis.

Myponga was the venue for the first Australian performance by leading British heavy rock group Black Sabbath during the Myponga Music festival in 1971. Prior to this festival the town's leading claim to fame was the 1953 discovery of a uranium ore deposit at Wild Dog Hill.

Myponga offers a gateway to many beautiful beaches including Aldinga Beach, Port Willunga and Maslin, South Australia’s first official nude bathing beach, located only a few kilometres from McLaren Vale and South Australia’s premier wine country. There's a good weekend craft and produce market, and a boutique brewery.A cheese factory was also established and its produce was noted for its high quality, much of which was exported.

The drive south to the popular seaside hideaway of Carrickalinga, known for the pristine sunsets, reef snorkelling and fishing, is punctuated with spectacular views of the coast. Enjoy views of the coast from hilltop lookouts - some of the best in South Australia. The name derived from the Aboriginal word maippunga meaning locality of high cliffs.

Myponga Conservation Park
The Heysen Trail traverses steep undulating hills south of the town of Myponga. Panoramic views of the surrounding Valleys and Range country can be seen from the high sections of the walk. Considered by many to be South Australia's most famous trail, the Heysen Trail runs for 1,200 kilometres from Cape Jervis on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula to Parachilna Gorge in the Flinders Ranges.
